A gantry crane is a type of crane in which the bridge girder is supported by two freestanding legs that travel on ground rails or wheels, rather than being fixed to a building’s runway beams. This makes gantry cranes ideal for outdoor sites, ports, shipyards and yards where there is no overhead structure to mount a crane on.
